D.R. Celebrates VI Dominican History Book Fair 2019

This year the Fair will run from September 30 through October 4, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Santo Domingo, September 7, 2019 – Beginning September 30 through October 4, the country’s National Archive will celebrate in its main headquarters the VI Annual Dominican History Book Fair. The goal of the Fair is to encourage reading and familiarize Dominicans with their national history.
This year the event will be dedicated to Dominican writer, playwright and historian Carlos Esteban Deive, who will present his latest book – the “101 Writings on Toussaint Louverture” (unofficial translation in English) – during the Fair.
The Fair’s central theme this year will be “The Colonial Period.” Most of the books and exhibits will concentrate on this important part of our national history.
As is done each year, Fair organizers will set up exhibits and book stands so that visitors can purchase books and hold book launching events. The program includes conferences, workshops, panel discussions, guided tours, documentaries and the presentation of various feature films, among other activities.
Included in the Fair’s overall program is the book launching of eight new books. The majority of these publications are research projects carried out by the General Archive or sponsored by the institution.
The Dominican History Book Fair, faithful to its mission to contribute to document the nation’s patrimony and the cultural aspects of the institution, each year brings together under the same roof historians, researchers, librarians, professors and students. All come together to share their passion for history, while at the same time participate in the cultural and educational activities included in the program.
The General Archive extends the invitation to local libraries, authors, educational centers, companies, institutions, students, teachers, researchers, and anyone else interested in history and literature. Also, to libraries and editorial houses.
Painting Contest “Draw Your History”
Fair organizers have announced a special art contest for children titled “Paint Your History.” The goal of the contest is to motivate children and young adults, between 10 and 15 years of age, to become interested in the country’s history.
The deadline to turn in the paintings is Friday, September 20, and winners will be announced on Friday, October 4, at the General Archive.
