Ministry of Tourism Presents Guide-Catalog on Sustainable Tourism Community Experiences

Punta Cana, March 26, 2019 – The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Tourism, along with other organizations working on the Sustainable Community Tourism Project, presented the first edition of the catalog “Sustainable Tourism Community Experiences” during the country’s most important tourism fair.
The catalogue was formally presented during the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange event – DATE – the country’s most important fair and which this year was be held in Blue Mall Punta Cana, in the country’s eastern region between March 26-28.
The guide, directed at national and international tour operators, and other sectors related to the tourism industry, will be an introductory guide to the Project which is currently being implemented in 14 provinces of the country’s north coast.
This teaching tool is a Dominican contribution to the new global trend regarding sustainability, improvement and training in this area. The Project has been in operation since 2016, specifically in the country’s north coast.
The 44-page catalog, printed in color, includes in each section a brief description of the communities that have tourism-oriented projects such as the ones developed by beekeepers around the cacao plantations of the northwest region. Also, the arts and crafts made by artisans from the town of Imbert, also in the north coast, with petrified wood.
On the northeast region, the guide highlights the work carried out by the Association of Guides of the Cabarete Caves, where visitors can observe the beautiful caves found just beneath the ocean surface. There is also a special section on the country’s top north coast beaches.
This particular guide, which concentrates on the country’s central and north coast regions, is part of the Multi-Destination Project sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism.
The project is co-sponsored by the Government of Japan, and its goal is to link local communities to the overall national tourism industry.
