The 13th International Book Fair of Dominican Women Writers Starts Today
    New York, March 18, 2016

T he 13th International Book Fair of Dominican Women Writers in the United States, which is dedicated this year to leading writer Kianny Antigua, will hold its opening ceremony this Friday, March 18, starting at 6 pm, in the theater of the Isabella Home Center, located at 515 Audubon Avenue in Upper Manhattan.

With the slogan "La Creación Femenina es Autorreflexiva," the 13th International Book Fair of Dominican Women Writers in the United States will take place on Saturday, March 19 and Sunday, March 20, starting at 10 am, in the halls of the Dominican Commissioner of Culture in the United States, located at 541 West 145th Street, near the corner of Broadway in Manhattan, New York.

The 13th Fair will pay a special tribute to community activist Carmen Rojas, for her outstanding work in schools and in the community, as well as to Elisabeth Rosario, for her support to youth, and psychoanalyst and metapoet, Dr. Jorge Piña, who will be awarded the Medal of Honor for cultural merit.

The Fair was created by the Center for the Development of Dominican Women, which is led by Rosita Romero

The Fair, directed by poet and psychotherapist Karina Rieke, is one of the most important events in the world of literature and culture of Dominican writers living in New York, as well as in other States in the United States.

Karina Rieke said that the main objective of the Fair is to expand the horizons of books produced by the participating women poets and to help make them the primary educational and cultural tool in modern society, "since, whenever we are able to spread the printed or digital word, we help create a transforming event for the advancement of the human being, the family and society in general."

"The Fair will be a vibrant literary and cultural festival to be attended by men and women who speak our language, to celebrate literature by Dominican women and other world female writers, with the voices of universal thought," Rieke said.

The Fair has been organized in collaboration with the Center for the Development of Dominican Women, Hostos Community College, the Dominican Commissioner of Culture, the Dominican Consulate in New York, and Councilman Ydanis Rodríguez, among others.
