Dominican women succeeding in Hollywood
While the Dominican film industry is gaining strength within the country, several Dominican actresses are already standing out in Hollywood. Michelle
Rodríguez , who reached the hall of fame through her interpretation as Dian Guzman in the movie Girlfight is among the most remarkable ones. Rodriguez has continued her career participating in films such as Fast and the Furious and Resident Evill. She is currently part of the North American TV series Lost, which has been critically acclaimed and has reach high popularity levels among the public.
Zoe
Saldaña is another Dominican star who achieved recognition in the movie Centerstage. She then worked with actor Johnny
Depp in the filming of Pirates
of the Caribbean, The Curse of the Black Pearl. Moreover, Saldaña had a leading role in the Dominican movie La
Maldición del Padre Cardona, and will be seen in two more movies (After
Sex and Premium) this year.
Furthermore, a not very common incident happened in Hollywood: two Dominican actresses worked together in the making of the movie X-Men:
The Last Stand, which was released at Cannes Film Festival in France. Omahyra
Mota interpreted Arclight while Dania
Ramírez interpreted Callisto. It’s worth highlighting that Ramirez has also participated in the TV series Buffy
the Vampire Slayer, the movie Fat
Albert , and worked with Director Spike Lee in his film She
Hate Me. For both women there is a very promising future.
