ES VERDE Awards of Conservation and the Environment

Since the year 2009, newspaper HOY’s En Sociedad magazine and the Puntacana Group each year recognize and highlight the values of those who work in favor of the Dominican Republic’s natural resources and sustainability.  During a special ceremony, awards are issued to government and private entities chosen by a jury in the following categories:  “The Annual Grand Solution Award,” the “Campaign of the Year Solution Award,” the “Entrepreneurial Solution Award,” and the “Community Organizer Solution Award.”  From its very beginning, awards have been issued to the heads of the country’s National Parks, the Moreno brothers, Melba de Grullón, from Sur Futuro Foundation, Idelisa Bonnelly, Iván Gómez, Zaura Muñiz, Yolanda León, Carlos Janariz, Eugenio Fajardo, Rolando González Bunster, and to Frank and Haydée Rainieri. This year, four organizations and individuals were distinguished for the work they have carried out to protect Dominican coastal areas: underwater photographer and author of the book “Mar Vivo”, Guillermo Ricart; the Fundación Red Arrecifal Dominicana (RAD); Jumbo, from the Centro Cuesta Nacional Group (CCN), for its campaign “#LasPlayashablan”; and Ramón Montero and his team of fishermen from the community of Manresa, who take care for the Timbar turtles to avoid its extinction (the species lays its eggs in Dominican beaches).
