In case you select the Dominican Republic as your next destination, below we provide information on the various routes you can take to get there: air, sea and land.

In the By Air section, you will find the different international airports and the airlines that operate regularly from and into the country. If you decide to conduct domestic tourism, below you will find information on the domestic airlines operating within the country. In addition, we provide information regarding the Duties and Rights of Air Transport Passengers that the Dominican Civil Aviation Authorities follow.

The Dominican Republic also has ports to welcome cruise ships. They are located in the city of Santo Domingo and in the provinces of La Romana, Samaná and Puerto Plata.

Finally, if you plan to arrive by land, we provide information on the companies that operate the route from Haiti to the Dominican Republic.

By Air

Airports

The Dominican Republic has eight (8) international airports: the Dr. Jose Francisco Pena Gomez-Las Américas and the Dr. Joaquin Balaguer, La Isabela, International Airports, both in the city of Santo Domingo; the Gregorio Luperón Airport in Puerto Plata; the Cibao Airport in the city of Santiago; the María Montez Airport in Barahona, and the Juan Bosch Airport in the province of Samaná. Finally, the Punta Cana and the La Romana Airports, both located in the East Coast.

International Airlines

In the Dominican Republic there are 51 international airlines providing passenger, mail and cargo services. They operate from: the United States, Canada, Germany, England, France, Spain, Italy, United Kingdom, Mexico, Colombia, Panama, Cuba, Curaçao, Argentina, Peru, Aruba, Chile, Antigua, Venezuela, Brazil, Belgium, Puerto Rico and Haiti (2016 data).

The countries of origin of these airlines, contact numbers in their country and/or websites are provided in the table below. Not all these companies have offices in the DR. Therefore, if you need assistance, you should go to the airline counter at the airport where you arrived.

Domestic Airlines

Some of these companies offer regular transportation services to Haiti, Aruba, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, San Martin, Curaçao, Porto Rico and Havana, among other international destinations, as well as excursions within the national territory. Non-scheduled Airlines or Charters

The Dominican Republic receives a large number of non-scheduled flights or charters to its various tourist areas. These flights are offered by travel agencies or authorized tour operators, so we recommend contacting them directly in their respective countries.

• Assistance to Air Transport Passengers

Dominican legislation recognizes a series of rights and protection for air transportation passengers. Airlines are required to respond to passengers in accordance with what is established in the International Agreements that regulate the matter. Claims must be made within the deadlines established for that purpose.

The first step for passengers is to submit their complaint and/or claim to the airline where they purchased their ticket. If their case is not solved by the airline, they can submit their claim to the Civil Aviation Board of the Dominican Republic, which has an Air Transport User’s Guide available to them at:

By Sea: Cruce Ships

In case tourists prefer to visit the Dominican Republic by sea, currently there are four ports in operation to welcome cruise ships. They are located in the cities of Santo Domingo, La Romana, Samaná and Puerto Plata. The cruise ship season in the Dominican Republic runs from October to April. However, the ports of La Romana and Puerto Plata operate year-round.

By Land
