D.R. Tourism Ministry and Local Water Sports Companies Participate Jointly in Top Diving Fair Held in the U.S.

Bávaro, Punta Cana, December 3, 2018 – For the first time ever the Dominican Ministry of Tourism will participate jointly with the different local aquatic sports companies that operate in the country in the annual fair sponsored by the Diving Equipment and Marketing Association (DEMA).

The event, held in Las Vegas, Nevada, is the largest event held in the United States to support this important industry.

The Dominican Republic has been an active participant in this event since 2004. However, it was this year that the Ministry decided to participate jointly in the annual event. Participants in the Dominican delegation included the Ministry of Tourism, the Aquatic Association of La Altagracia Province, and the Romana-Bayahibe Tourism Cluster.

The president of the Aquatic Association of the province, Emile Mariotti, explained that this is an important step to promote the country’s diving and water sports sector at the international level.

“We thank the Ministry of Tourism for accepting our proposal to jointly participate in this event, in order to effectively promote the options the country offers in activities related to scuba diving and snorkeling,” explained Mariotti.

The DEMA event began 42 years ago and, to date, some nine thousand individuals and approximately 500 participants – all related to this particular tourism industry – come together each year to present the advances and packages offered by the industry at the national and international levels.

Albania Martínez, the Aquatic Vice President of the Dominican Association of Aquatic Sports, said that the DEMA is an excellent platform to promote the complementary aquatic activities the country has to offer. During the four-day event, the Dominican delegation met with representatives from tour agencies, and diving groups from the United States and from other parts of the world.

Martínez also explained that during the event organizers included in the program diving, snorkeling, aquatic sports and a great variety of diving equipment.

The Dominican delegation, including the Aquatic Association of La Altagracia Province, distributed updated information and brochures on the country’s many aquatic-related activities.
