Book Launching Ceremony of Book and Documentary on Dominican Hero Gregorio Urbano Gilbert

New York, September 13, 2019 – The documentary “Gilbert: Hero of Two Peoples,” is a Dominican production that tells the story of Gregorio Urbano Gilbert, a Dominican and Latin American hero who fought against the American occupation of the Dominican Republic in 1916.
The documentary will be presented by the Dominican Cultural Commission of the Ministry of Culture in New York City.
The two-day event will consist of the launching of the second edition of the book “Gilbert: Hero of Two Peoples.” This event will take place on Wednesday, September 26, at 7:00 p.m. The documentary will be exhibited on Thursday, September 26, at 7:00 p.m. at the Dominican Cultural Commission, situated at 541 West 145th Street (corner of Broadway), in Manhattan.

Both events are part of the “Gilbert Expedition.” Both the book and the documentary have been exhibited throughout the Dominican Republic, free of charge, so that all Dominicans may become familiar with this national hero.

The Expedition started in the Province of Monte Plata, in the country’s northeast region, and will continue to be presented in the Dominican Republic’s 32 provinces as well as in other countries. The book and documentary were produced by the local television station “Señales TV,” a channel whose goal is to spread moral values amongst the local population.

The head of “Señales TV,” and documentary producer Euri Cabral, said during a press conference that the goal of the “Gilbert Expedition” is to familiarize all Dominicans with this little-known Dominican hero.
