
NuviRD is the largest private alliance in the Dominican Republic that seeks to create a culture of reduction, reuse, recycling and waste utilization in the country. The Dominican Council on Fishing and Aquaculture (CODOPESCA) warned that the waters of the Haina River – situated in Santo Domingo’s southwest region - are highly polluted due to contamination originating from various sources. In the D.R., the ban on consumption of Queen Conch meat (Strombus gigas/Lobatus gigas) runs from July 1 through October 31. This means that the fishing and commercialization of the Queen Conch is prohibited nationwide during this time period. For further information: www.codopesca.gob.do
