Dominican authorities, upon signing an agreement with the Basque government, received a donation of 300,000 Euros which are earmarked for the rehabilitation of 21 aqueducts…

Dominican Vice-President Rafael Alburquerque and an official of the Basque Government’s Housing and Social Services Ministry, Javier Madrazo Lavín, signed the first agreement while the second one was being signed by the Basque government representative and Marco Rodríguez, Executive Director of the National Institute of Potable Water and Sewage Systems (INAPA), according to a press release from the President’s Office of Information, Press and Publicity.

Mr. Alburquerque explained that the agreement seeks to strengthen the links enjoyed by the two governments for many years.

Alburquerque thanked the Basque government representative in the name of President Leonel Fernández and the Dominican people for the support and collaboration its government has shown to the Dominican Republic.

The Dominican Vice-President reiterated that the donation was an expression of the fraternal link that exists between them as well as the unconditional support and brotherhood that has existed for years between the Dominican Republic and the Basque Country.

Javier Madrazo Lavín, of the Basque Housing and Social Services Ministry, said the donation to build 21 aqueducts will benefit nearly a half million (480,000) people in the different areas of the country.

He affirmed that these people will be guaranteed access to healthy and safe drinking.

“For the Basque government, this is an important agreement because we are talking about an essential necessity, a basic necessity. Safe drinking water is a guarantee of life and gives boys and girls the chance to grow up without the threat of falling victim to illnesses transmitted by water,” said Mr. Madrazo Lavín.

The agreements were signed in Vice-President Rafael Alburquerque’s office in the National Palace.
