Millennium Objectives Commission and Cisneros Foundation to Develop a Program in Miches

The President’s Commission on Millennium Objectives and the Cisneros Foundation will work in coordination to carry out a series of programs to improve the quality of life among residents of the Municipality of Miches.


Mr. Gagain explained that a Millennium Objectives pilot project was put into place in the Hermanas Mirabal province and that at the moment they are working to take the project to Miches….


This information was released by the Executive Director of the Millennium Objectives Commission, John R. Gagain, during a meeting with executives of the Cisneros Foundation, held in the Mirabal Sisters Hall of the National Palace, according to the President’s office.


Mr. Gagain explained that a Millennium Objectives pilot project was put into place in the Hermanas Mirabal province and that at the moment they are working to take the project to Miches. He added that this pilot is being developed with help from the Office of the First Lady.


Gaigan added that the government is making contacts so that this community can develop for the benefit of its inhabitants in that it is a city dedicated to tourism.


In that order, he announced that there is a commission from Rischet in the country that works with Miches’ coral reefs, a natural resource that lends to the community’s economy.


Speaking as Vice-President and Director of the Cisneros Foundation, Adriana Cisneros and William Phelan said the organization has been in the country since 2005 collaborating in the development of educational programs in coordination with the National Institute of Teacher Education and Training (Inafocam).


The Cisneros Foundation executives explained that more than 1,300 teachers have received training through Inafocam.


“We are focused in the area of education, but we have programs for children up to professors. We provide training courses for professors and education courses for children to help them develop their cognitive capabilities,” said Mrs. Cisneros.


Cisneros indicated that these projects have the support of the Ministry of Education and the Office of the First Lady. She also confirmed that they will concentrate all their efforts to reach and help the people of Miches and other towns in the Dominican Republic.
