“Aventura: Truth Behind the Phenomenon” Presented at Book Fair

L “Adventure: The Truth Behind the Phenomenon” was presented on Wednesday night at the Association of Journalists of the Arts’ (Acroarte) stand located inside the Museum of the Dominican Man at the 11th International Book Fair of Santo Domingo 2008.

“Aventura is a group of Hispanic boys from modest backgrounds who live in New York City in areas close to what we’d call ghettos. They dream about becoming famous singers and suddenly they find themselves on the top of the world.”

In the presence of the news media, Acroarte board members and its president Marivell Contreras, and the general public were introduced to the book that exposes the successes and failures of the famous Bachata group.

Julio Cesart García, group creator, sat at the head of the table of honor and offered details about the The True Aventura Story, a history unknown until now, about a Dominican group that has gone places and achieved things like never before.

“At this time they charged around $200 dollars for 6-hour shows. No one gave them anything and they were happy if someone made them some tostones, chicken and “die-dreaming” (a drink made from milk and sweet oranges); that was enough for the moment, at least it killed the hunger of the teenagers who were starting to have hunger pains in their large stomachs,” wrote Cesart in one of the chapters of his book.

García, publicist and painter by profession, described the formula which years later would result in what today is known as the group Aventura.

The revealing yet honest book is narrated in simple language by J Julio Cesart García to the journalist Eloy Alberto Tejera and edited by José Antonio Aybar F., former press secretary of the famous group.
