Dominican Republic Elected Rapporteur of FAO Summit

The Dominican Republic was elected by delegates from around the world to be the Rapporteur of the Plenary Conference of FAO Food Summit underway currently in Rome. The rapporteur of the plenary will be undertaken by Dominican Agriculture Minister, Salvador Chío Jiménez.


The rapporteur’s responsibilities include the supervision of debates on the global crisis, soaring food prices, the consequences of climate change, the impact of biofuels…


The rapporteur’s responsibilities include the supervision of debates on the global crisis, soaring food prices, the consequences of climate change, the impact of biofuels and possible alternatives to stimulate agricultural productivity and promotion of sustainable development. The rapporteur will also present the text of the final declaration of the FAO summit, according to the Presidential Office of Information, Press and Publicity.


As such, President Fernández, as vice-president of the FAO Summit, deals with the representation of the 33 Latin and Caribbean countries at the directors’ table of the meeting.
