Dominican Government Promises to Maintain Economic Stability

The Dominican Minister of Economy, Planning and Development announced on Tuesday that the government will take rigorous steps to guarantee the fulfillment of its economic commitments. Juan Temístocles Montás said the economic authorities are conscious of what needs to be done to guarantee fiscal stability and to avoid distortions in the country’s overall economic situation.

The Minister of Economy, Planning and Development, speaking to reporters in his office at the National Palace, said economic authorities were currently evaluating the situation with the idea of giving a full report to President Fernández. He said their report would include a general economic panorama as well as recommendations.

Temístocles Montás noted that the recommendations to be given to the President will be based on real data and situations. He pointed out that, for the government to gain the confidence of those working in the economic field, it is going to have to implement a policy of austerity.
