The Dominican Republic Participates in the GoGo Vacations Tradeshow in Houston

The Dominican Tourism Promotion Office (TPO) in Miami took part in the “Trade Show and Appreciation Dinner,” given by GoGo Worldwide Vacations, one of the most important tour operators in the United States. The TPO is hoping to promote Dominican tourism in the Southeastern United States.

…the DR is diversifying and expanding tourism attractions into different categories to include areas such as golf, wedding venues, adventure tourism, conventions, luxury tourism incentives and real estate.

TPO’s representative in Miami, Yaniris Felipe, presented to nearly 80 of   Houston’s most important travel agencies a list of the DR’s newest programs underway, including recent public and private investment in tourism projects, according to a Tourism Ministry press release.

Felipe told the travel agents how the DR is diversifying and expanding tourism attractions into different categories to include areas such as golf, wedding venues, adventure tourism, conventions, luxury tourism incentives and real estate.

Those travel agents attending the event, held at the Omni Houston Hotel, expressed an interest in the DR as a tourist destination with its new attractions and hotels. They suggested that there should be a direct flight to Punta Cana in that there is already a lot of demand to travel there from this part of the United States.

Direct Tampa and Miami Flights to Punta Cana

The Miami TPO office, along with the MK Travelplan Tour Operator, held a workshop to promote charter flights from Tampa and Miami to Punta Cana.

The activities, held Tampa as well as Miami, were attended by some 120 travel agents and tour operators interested in getting to know more about the Dominican Republic, considered to be one of the most sought after destinations.

New charter flights between Tampa-Punta Cana-Punta Cana-Tampa and Miami-Punta Cana-Punta Cana-Miami will commence at the beginning of June.

The workshops and promotion activities are part of an effort being made by the Ministry of Tourism to promote the image of the Dominican Republic in this important U.S. market..

Both of these two activities, in Florida and Texas, were held with the support and participation of nine hotel chains, among which were the Amhsa Marina, Barceló Hotels, EDENH, Natura Park, Oasis Hotels & Resorts, LTI, Sanctuary Cap Cana, Sol Meliá and Ocean Hotels & Resorts.

In addition to the workshops, the Miami Tourism Office organized three consecutive days of direct promotion for the Dominican Republic. The office worked with the above hotels and the MK Travelplan in an effort to  reach out to the main travel agencies and tour operators in Tampa, Saint Petersburg, Sarasota, Orlando, Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, in Florida.

The workshops and promotion activities are part of an effort being made by the Ministry of Tourism to promote the image of the Dominican Republic in this important U.S. market, explained Wendy Justo, director of Miami Office and supervisor for the United States and Puerto Rico.

These promotional activities in the local press and the organization of events were carried out with the cooperation of Yaniris Felipe, Magalys Mella and Claudio Piantini, who are part of the team of the Tourism Office in Miami.
