The Dominican team received support from the Halka Industrial cosmetics company in the name of its Halka Gel. Ricardo Esteban, VP of Marketing and Sales of Halka Industrial congratulated the team for their great achievement.

The team was led by its captain, Luis Aracena. Antonio Grullón and Aldo Ruiz competed in the Grandmaster category (over 40 years of age). Víctor Peralta and Miguel Mesa competed in the Master Category (over 35 years), Robert Reid and Ariel Méndez in the Kahuna Category (over 45 years of age), Hans Moller surfed in the Grand Kahuna Category (older than 50), and Virginia Esteban, the only woman on the team, participated in the Ladies Masters (women over 35 years of age).

Team leader Luis Aracena noted that “although last year in Puerto Rico we won 6th place out of 12 competing teams, our performance this year signifies an even great achievement in that this year there were 17 teams competing and they were all highly skilled including athletes who were on professional world surfing tours. We are very satisfied in that all our surfers were up to the challenge and surfing level of the event.”

The competition was won by the South African team, for the second year in a row. Australia took second place and Brazil took third.

The competing countries included Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Guatemala, Trinidad & Tobago, Great Britain, France, Ecuador, Italy, Tahiti, Argentina, South Africa, Mexico, Brazil, Sweden, Australia and Peru.
