The show displays 35 photographs that express the feelings and passions of both artists through images and a lecture of the most important events that made up their lives throughout their relationship of more than 25 years, including the numerous significant political occurrences that took place in Mexico in the first half of the 20th century.

In opening remarks, Casas Reales Museum Director Ana Yee de Cury stressed the social and historical character of the photographic exhibition.

Cury said the taped lectures provided by the museum to accompany the exhibition transport the viewer to the time and place where the two prominent artists lived allowing them to experience, up close, the political happenings of the time, the labor struggles and feelings of Mexican nationalism.

At her side was Mexican Ambassador Enrique Loaeza Tovar who said the presentation of “Accomplices: Diego and Frida” is an homage from the Aztec people to the two artists in memory of the 50th anniversary of Diego Rivera’s death and the 100th anniversary of Frida’s birth.

Loaeza said the photographs in the exhibition emphasize the relationship established between people who participated either closely or by accident in the lives of Diego Rivera and Frida Khalo.

The complicity between the two artists is the best example of why, according to the Ambassador Loaeza, they were not just lovers, political activists and artists but also leaders of an entire generation of change in modern Mexico.

The event was attended by personalities in the world of art, politics, culture and others invited by the Mexican Embassy.
