John Padovani Painting Show “Friends of the Night”

The Secretary of State for Culture inaugurated the painting show, “Friends in the Night” by Peruvian artist John Padovani in the Art Hall of Ramón Oviedo. Padovani is showing 24 paintings made up of medium and large size pictures on canvas based on the mystical concept of the owl against a background of soft earth tones that give each canvas a feel of night silence while all the while retaining Caribbean-colored brushstrokes.

He added that the ghosts appearing in the painting are figures that appear to be owls, figures that also have a distinctly erotic connotation.

Peruvian art critic Luis Alberto Galindo said that “Friends of the Night” encompasses much speculation, conjecture such as when friends get together at night after the moon has risen and the sun has set or the same in the world of painting. He added that the ghosts appearing in the painting are figures that appear to be owls, figures that also have a distinctly erotic connotation. “This collection makes us go over each one of his paintings with a double interpretation of his figures where Venus and Mars are melted into translucent graphics under symbolic ghosts,” said Galindo.

“Friends of the Night” will be open to the public until March 25 in the Art Hall of Ramón Oviedo from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. John Padovani was born in Peru and has lived in the Dominican Republic for 19 years. He has worked as an art restorer of Italian Art works in Lima, Peru, the Almirante Palace, the Virreinal Art Museum, the Quinta Presa, the Museum of Alcázar de Colón, Bellas Artes Palace in the Dominican Republic and the Valencia Cathedral of Venezuela.

He obtained the top Regional Prize for Allusive Drawing Túpac Amaru and third place in the National Painting and Drawing Contest in Lima, Peru.

Padovani has showed his art in the Ecuadoran Cultural Center “Casa Guayasamín” Santo Domingo; Museum of the Nation, the National Institute of Culture, Lima Peru; the Omar Carreño Arts Space of Venezuela; the Association of Painters in Cusco, Peru; the Casa of the Americas Collective and the Festival of Fire in Santiago, Cuba.
