First Merenque Festival To Be Held in Puerto Rico

The Office Tourism Promotion (OPT) of the Dominican Republic in Puerto Rico has begun preparations for what will doubtless be an event full of Caribbean heat, Creole music and cultural intensity: the first Merengue Festival of Puerto Rico.

“This will represent a great promotional opportunity for our country in the Puerto Rican market”…

“This proposal has garnered lots of enthusiasm on the part of the Puerto Rico authorities…the event will be unique in their history,” said Cosette García, Director of the OPT.

In a SECTUR press and communications release, García said the Brugal liquor company has asked the OPT to organize the logistics and design of the event, to be celebrated Sunday July 27 in the Hiran Bithron Stadium in the capital San Juan.

Well-known Dominican musicians are expected to participate in the festival such as Los Rosario and Milly Quesada. In addition there will be an exhibition on the part of the Creole artisans as well as a variety of hotel companies from the Dominican Republic.

“This will represent a great promotional opportunity for our country in the Puerto Rican market,” emphasized García.

Garcia added that the OPT will be presenting one-minute informative spots to television viewers every Sunday at 6:00 in the evening on Univision PR Channel 7 for a period of four consecutive months, “as a result of the mini publicity campaign we are pushing with the hotels of Bahía Príncipe in Puerto Rico”.
