With the idea of monitoring and following up on the efforts being made to place the Dominican Republic in a competitive position in comparison with its international competitors, the National Council for Competition (CNC) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) are setting up a Competition Observation System for the Dominican Republic.

The computerized tracking system compiles information online that will provide information about international competition. Through the website, www.observatoriocompetitividad.com.do users will be able to compare international indicators with local statistics and documents. This way, advances in the application of the National Competitive Systems Plan can be monitored.

The online information system is reliable and constantly updated. To access the site, one can go there directly through the above web address or one can access it by going to the National Council for Competition’s website at: www.cnc.gov.do.

CNC’s Executive Director, Andrés van der Horst Álvarez, said this new tool will be very valuable to track and supervise advances as well as existing challenges in terms of the competition facing the Dominican Republic.

“It is a technological mechanism that will promote transparency in the realm of competition in the country, in the public as well as the private sector. That is to say, through this website, everyone, government and business people, can gather information and maintain communication in order to observe how each sector is advancing.”

The UNDP, through its country representative Joana Merlin, expressed support for the national efforts being made to increase competition and for the development underway in the Dominican Republic, emphasizing the work being done by the CNC. The UNDP’s message also mentioned the importance of statistics, analysis and public access information essential for the transparency and efficiency of the project.

The launch of this new technological platform will take place on Thursday February 28 in the La Niña Hall of the Hotel V Centenario.
