Remodeling of Saona Island Port to Begin in February

The Rescue and Planning Commission of the Eastern National Park, Saona Island announced that remodeling work will get underway on the port in this touristic community and will cost $1.2 million Dominican Pesos.

Luis Simó, deputy tourism secretary for International Affairs and coordinator of the Commission, said that work along the Mano Juan wharf will begin this coming February. He added that the funds are being provided by the Secretary of State for Public Works and Communication, according to a press release from the Press and Communication Office of Secretary of Tourism.

In terms of remodeling the facades of the homes in town, Sectur did a preliminary study of the project’s cost and has provided a new and innovative design that will attract the attention of national as well as international visitors.

The meeting of the Commission took place at the Handicraft School in the community of Mano Juan. Accompanying Mr. Simó was Freddy Félix Isaac, deputy tourism secretary for Romana and Bayahíbe; Juan Ramón Ogando and Nancy Polanco, president and vice president, respectively, of the Dominican Consulting Council Abroad; Felipe Medina, secretary of Public Works; Captain Santiago Victorino Marte, Supervisor of the Saona Beaches and Toursim Police Major Marmolejos.
