ITSC Presents La Trinitaria Blanca
Santo Domingo Este. January 19, 2016

The Instituto Técnico Superior Comunitario (ITSC) staged the play “La Trinitaria Blanca,” by poet and playwright Manuel Rueda. The event took place last Friday, January 15, at the Máximo Avilés Blonda Hall of the Palace of Fine Arts. With this performance, and for the second year, the students showed the skills they have acquired through the theater and dance courses taught at the ITSC, in addition to the curriculum.

La Trinitaria Blanca, by renowned Dominican playwright Manuel Rueda, is a surrealist work whose story is based on the life of an educated family of a village. The central character is Aunt Miguelina, who serves and takes care of everyone, and one day realizes that she needs to be loved, and that she does not love herself the same way that she has loved and cared for everyone, including the white Trinitarian plant that is located at the entrance of the house, and which is part of all her traumas and conflicts, that have led her to seek a fictional love that never existed. It is a play in three-acts, whose everyday language is full of drama and passion.

The play is directed by Teacher Wendy Queliz, who studied at the School of Fine Arts under Professor Mario Heredia, and then pursued studies in the field of Performing Arts, majoring in Fine Arts and Culture, graduating as an Actress, and performing in various plays and TV commercials. Then, she settled in Santiago de Chile to study theater education at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, specializing in the Movement in Space technique and Performance under Ramón Griffero, at the same university. She completed a Bachelors Degree of Arts with emphasis in theater with an educational approach at the Atlantic International University. She studied dance at the Santo Domingo Ballet and at the En Brujo dance school in Santiago de Chile, where she also studied dance and movement under Carmen Preñan, renowned teacher of movement and Chilean folklore. As Director of educational theater, she has directed more than 30 plays, both in Chile and in the Dominican Republic, at the best theater halls: the Palace of Fine Arts, the National Theatre, and Casa de Teatro, among others.

The main purpose for staging this play is to promote art and culture in the communities of San Luis and around the country, through artistic expression, by bringing shows such as this one, free of charge, where young students develop their talents and put them at the service of the community that has welcomed the support and follow up programs which the office of the Academic Vice-Rector has developed with dedication, through the Office of Student Services.
