The Dominican National Folkloric Ballet, with support from the Ministry of Culture (MINC), will offer a concert dedicated to “Tributo a lo Popular” and “Una Leyenda”, on Sunday, November 29, and on Monday, November 30, in the Carlos Piantini Hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theatre.

The concert will pay tribute to the following artists who are no longer with us: Luis Días, Sonia Silvestre, López Balaguer and Fernando Echavarría, in posthumous recognition to the contributions they made to the development and dissemination of the folk genres and rhythms of the Dominican musical heritage.

“This is a gala celebration to pay tribute to those who deserve to be honored,” said dancer Elizabeth Crooke, Director of the Dominican National Folkloric Ballet, during a press conference held in the Bar of the National Theatre.

During the course of the press conference, Crooke was joined by the cast of dancers, Sady Regus, Annette Dalmasid, Iván Almánzar, Paola Cordero, Carolina Borsos and Nathaly Borsos.

The following personalities attended on behalf of the Ministry of Culture: Dr. Carlos Salcedo, Director of the MINC cabinet; writer Cayo Claudio Espinal, Deputy Minister of Decentralization and Territorial Coordination; Félix Germán, Director General of Fine Arts; Mercedes Morales, Director of the Dominican National Ballet; Professor Josefina Miniño, and Luis Rivera, Coordinator of the Vice Ministry of Identity and Citizenship.

Elizabeth Crooke, who will be responsible for the overall artistic direction and choreography, explained that the presentation of the concert will be done in two parts: “Tributo a lo Popular,” which seeks to highlight the great voices, interpretations and compositions of the late artists that made history in national and international stages.

Referring to the second part, “Una Leyenda,” Crooke explained that it is a new proposal based on a staging with folk rhythms of great national significance; she referred to Mande’s story, which was brought to the stage by renowned professor Josefina Miniño in the decade of the 90s.

She added that this is a new adaptation where earlier works, such as “La Leyenda de Mande,” by Professor Patricia Ascuasiati and music by David Almengod, will become evident.
