The Nation’s General Archive (AGN for its acronym in Spanich) announced the second Dominican History Book Fair, which will be held from October 26 to October 31. It will include various activities and will take place at the institution, and it will be dedicated to historian Emilio Cordero Michel.


Activities will include exhibitions and book sales, artistic performances, documentaries, workshops, conferences, book launchings, round tables, guided tours and other activities. The AGN’s management informed that the opening ceremony is scheduled for Monday, October 26, at 11:00 am and that the book expo-sale will also be opened that same day. There will be presentations on the services offered by the institution, as well as on its finances, collections and projects.


Among the artistic presentations are the UASD’s Rondalla, the performance “Mujeres de Abril,” the Karla Hatton theater group; the Dominican American Cultural Institute’s choir; the Ministry of Culture’s Folkloric Ballet; the Garcell Duo; and, the Ministry of Tourism’s Folkloric Ballet.


Likewise, the following documentaries will be screened: “Abril, el pueblo en armas”; “Mujeres a través de la historia”; “Máximo Gómez, un hombre del destino”; “Voces de Abril”; “Abril: Boda de Oro con la Patria,” by Gerardo Sepúlveda, and the movie “Amin,” by Etzel Báez.


On Monday, October 26, at 7:00 pm, there will be a tribute to Emilio Cordero Michel and the presentation of his Obras Escogidas, Ensayos I, Cátedra de Historia, presented by Natacha and Raymundo González.


Renowned intellectuals, such as Minerva Isa, Eunice Lluberes, Eliades Acosta, Darío Tejeda, Alejandro Paulino Ramos, Bernardo Regino, Rafael Alfredo Hernández, Santiago Castro Ventura, Rafael Leonidas Pérez y Pérez, Gerardo Cabrera, Arlette Fernández, José Chez Checo, Marino Félix Terrero, Daimit Duque, Amanda Ortiz, and others will participate as analysts and speakers at panels and lectures.


Among the books to be released to the public are: “Cosas añejas, Tradiciones y episodios de Santo Domingo,” by César Nicolás Penson; “Documentos del gobierno de Carlos F. Morales Languasco,” compiled by Alfredo Hernández; “Antología de cartas de Ulises Heureaux (Lilís),” by Cyrus Veeser; “Antología,” by Carlos Larrazábal Blanco, edited by Andrés Blanco Díaz; “Manual de historia de Santo Domingo y otros temas históricos,” by Carlos Larrazábal Blanco; “Santuario de las tres vírgenes (Nuestra Señora de La Altagracia, La Inmaculada Concepción y Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes),” by Fray Cipriano de Utrera, and many others.


The DVD “Yo vine a amanecer, Panorama de la música tradicional dominicana,” by Martha Ellen Davis, will be another attraction at the fair, in which the prizes of the “Vetilio Alfau Durán” National History Awards-AGN (2015) competition will be presented to the winners.
