A New Vision of the Logistics of Dominican Tourism is Suggested

The Dominican Republic needs to move forward with its logistics processes, as a way to accommodate the 10 million tourists a year the country expects to receive within the next decade, said Evaristo Yáñez and Julio Fernández during a lecture entitled “Impact of Logistics in the Hotel Industry.”

The experts argued that logistics consist of the management of the entire tourism process and includes the planning of areas such as transportation, construction of warehouses, public roads, safety and quality control, among others.

There is a need for logistics, understood as the bridge or link between production and the market, to support Dominican tourism growth, said Yáñez, Trade Director of Syncro Logistics, and Fernández, Regional Sales Manager at EMOtrans, during their participation in the ASONAHORES Business Expo 2015.

They argued that tourism-related companies need to meet the needs of each of the stages of the tourism process.

The experts submitted their companies’ specialized offerings to support the hotels’, restaurants’ and shops’ operations and projects.

Among the solutions being offered are: international transportation and logistics, local transportation, customs management at destination, door to door deliveries, control of purchase order, and short and long term inventory services. Also, collection and consolidation services, specialized packaging for delicate cargo, construction equipment and machinery, furniture, accessories, spare parts and equipment, as well as other operating supplies and equipment.

Having a better planning is essential, stated Yáñez and Fernández. Their companies -they explained- participate in the planning phase of the projects, their different stages, the materials to be transported, the items and issues that require special treatment, while at the same time they evaluate the customs regulations in the countries of destination.

It is difficult to be successful without having good logistics in place, they said, and included aspects such as knowledge of customs laws, regulations, good management of the purchasing department, as well as, for example, the relationship with government agencies at the national and regional levels.
