With the objective of promoting the practice of reading in children, adolescents and young people, and to contribute to their cultural enrichment, in addition to paying tribute to Juan Bosch, who was and is a great writer, the Children and Youth Library of the Dominican Republic (BIJRD) will host during the month of June the 5th Reading Olympics.



At these Reading Olympics participants will analyze and discuss the works of the former President of the Republic and of other authors, both Dominican and Latin American, which are to read before the instructors in the various halls of the library.


The winners will be those who demonstrate having a better understanding of the texts, as well as better spelling and composition. Throughout the month of June, the participants will read texts selected by the BIJRD and they must fill out a form containing a summary of the reading as well as all the details of the book. Then, they will be asked questions to confirm their understanding of the texts and to assess their critical reading.


The Reading Olympics, dedicated to Professor Juan Bosch, are held every year throughout the month of June, coinciding with the birthday of the Dominican writer and politician.


To participate you have to…


Be between the ages of 7 and 18 years. There will be four categories: 7 to 9, 10 to 12, 13 to 15 and 16 to 18 years old.


A selection of books, by both national and international authors, will be conducted in the various halls of the BIJRD, which the participants must read.


For every book they read they must fill out a form with the summary of the reading, which will be verified by the designated person, who will confirm that the book has been read.


The Olympics will be held June 1 to June 30. Participants must attend the programmed meetings, where the level of compression of the readings will be evaluated.
