T he Casa de la Cultura Darío Suro Art Gallery, located in the Municipality of La Vega, joins the celebration of the World Art Day, dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci, on the commemoration of the artist’s date of birth on April 15, with the opening of the exhibit “Hecho Aquí” (Made Here), in which prominent domestic and international artists will participate, including artists from: Germany, Argentina, Hungary, Israel, France and the Dominican Republic.

Of a quality rarely seen in our country, “Hecho Aquí” is an international, multiethnic, multicultural and multidisciplinary event, where drawings, photography, art objects and paintings are included.

The 14 guest artists that have been invited by the participating artist, art critic and curator Martín López, represent different media and formats, styles and trends. From the Dominican Republic, especially: Iris Pérez, Juan Bravo, Eduardo Rodríguez, Marcos Jorge, Raúl Morilla, José Azar Billini and Mariojosé Ángeles, will participate.

“Hecho Aquí” owes its name to the fact that all participating works have been created in the country by the various artists, both domestic and immigrant, who concur.

The World Art Day is an international celebration of the arts, which was established by the International Association of Art (IAA), in order to promote awareness about the creative activity that takes place worldwide.

A proposal was presented at the Seventeenth General Assembly of the International Association of Art in Guadalajara to declare April 15 as the World Art Day. The first celebration took place in 2012 and the date was chosen to commemorate Leonardo da Vinci’s date of birth. Da Vinci was selected as a worldwide symbol of peace, freedom of expression, tolerance, brotherhood and multiculturalism, as well as to show that art is also important in other fields.

Performances are scheduled to take place in the Enriquillo Sánchez Auditorium (at the Ministry of Culture headquarters); the Narciso González Cultural Center, the Haffé Serulle Experimental Theater, the Perelló Cultural Center, Baní; the Don Bosco Theater, Moca, Espaillat Province; Liceo Gregorio Luperón, Escuela Juan Ravelo, Puerto Plata; and, the San Francisco de Macorís Experimental Theater.
