At a rally of more than 20,000 people on March 14, the First Official Dominican Folkloric Ballet Dance Troupe was formed in Buenos Aires, following an initiative of the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Argentina. The event took place at Plaza de Mayo, in front of Casa Rosada, and it was broadcast live on the main TV channels to celebrate the “Day of the Communities”.

Thanks to its success, the dance group was invited to perform on March 19 before thousands of spectators at the renowned Plaza San Martín, located in the heart of Buenos Aires, under the sponsorship of the Francofonie and the City Government, with the participation of the Dominican Tourism Office. “It is amazing how you managed to grab the public’s attention to the rhythm of merengue, the beautiful colors of your flag and its impressive coat of arms,” said Hanspeter Mock, the Swiss Ambassador to Argentina and coordinator of the Francofonie, 2015.

Renowned Dominican announcer and master of ceremonies Vincent Cespedes hosted the event under the artistic direction of Lupita Made and the coordination of the Cultural and Press Section of the Dominican Embassy. The Embassy’s dance group is made of volunteer Dominican dancers living in Buenos Aires, including Carlos Gabriel Verlagieri, Luis Alberto López, Yasmerlin Sandoval Trujillo, Samil Castro Made, Leivi Nolasco Alfonseca, Francisco Gil, Francisco A. Yrruzary Javier, Esther Brito and Mrs. Carolina Hernández Guzmán (Counsellor at the Dominican Embassy). “To support and involve the Dominican Community living in Argentina, to promote our culture and tourism, are essential parts of our foreign policy,” said Ambassador Luis Arias.
