The colonial buildings and museums in the Colonial City of Santo Domingo will open their doors once again to celebrate the Long Night of the Museums, Spring edition, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, headed by singer and songwriter José Antonio Rodríguez.


The Long Night of the Museums will take place on Saturday, March 21 and is organized by the Directorate General of Museums, under the leadership of Ana María Conde. This edition, the first of four planned for this year, is dedicated to dance, dancing, and music. The public can enjoy free admission to a varied and comprehensive program that includes guided tours, shows, concerts, workshops, exhibitions of handcrafts and tasting of Dominican dishes, from 9 am until midnight.


The opening ceremony of this activity is scheduled for 6 pm and will take place at the Columbus Lighthouse Museum, located at Av. Estados Unidos, Jardines del Este, near 26 de Enero and Eduardo Brito Avenues in East Santo Domingo.


The Long Night of the Museums takes place at the beginning of each season and is part of the cultural policy of the government of President Danilo Medina, which promotes free access of the Dominican family to enjoy culture and the arts.


As in previous editions, valuable permanent historical exhibits on display at various museums of the Dominican cultural heritage will be available to attendees during this activity.


For this installment, the museums that will be open from 9:00 am on Saturday are: Alcázar de Colón, de las Casas Reales, the Santo Domingo Fortress, the Museum of the Dominican Family, the Trampoline Children’s Museum; Spain’s Cultural Center, the Telecommunications Cultural Center, Centro Cultural de la Imagen (Image Center), Banco de Reservas Cultural Center, Casa de Teatro, the Consistorial Palace, the Ministry of Tourism, and the Dominican Association of Plastic Artists.


Four Long Nights of the Museums are organized since 2013 as per Minister Rodríguez’s directive. This is an initiative which has boosted access for hundreds of families to enjoy their monuments heritage and additional artistic programs.
