Santo Domigo, January 20, 2015

The United Nations Association of the Dominican Republic (UNA-DR) issued an invitation on Tuesday, January 20th, to participate in the tenth annual edition of the Dominican Model United Nations Conference in New York (NYDRMUN 2015).

UNA-DR executives released the details of the activity, which will be held from Sunday, March 29th to Thursday, April 2nd, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel and in the Hall of the General Assembly of the United Nations Organization (UN) in New York.

NYDRMUN 2015 is the only academic event that is held in Spanish language in the Hall of the United Nations General Assembly. It will also be the first event to be held in the Hall after its remodeling. Delegates will be able to cast their votes on the draft resolutions from the seats of the official representatives of the 193 Member States of the United Nations Organization.

“In recognition of the quality of UNA-DR’s work in organizing the Model United Nations during the past 10 years, the international agency has provided us the space where this event will take place, and during which students will occupy the same seats from where the Heads of State address the world”, noted Emil Chireno, Executive Director of the institution.

These UN General Assembly simulations, Chireno said, have transformed the academic and intellectual development of dozens of Dominicans who have lived the experience of taking on the role of country delegates.

Participants in the NYDRMUN 2015 will receive general and specialized training starting in February, as well as guidelines regarding the entire visa process, prior to attending the conference.

Among other developments, Chireno informed that a scholarship to conduct Master’s degree studies at the Global Institute of Higher Studies in Social Sciences (iGlobal) will be awarded to a college student who is selected as the winner during the working sessions on higher education at NYDRMUN 2015. UNA-DR executives emphasized that those interested in attending the conference should complete the requirements to register on time, because NYDRMUN 2015 is a highly competitive activity and space is limited.

Among other benefits provided by NYDRMUN 2015, the skills that the young participants acquire within an atmosphere of diplomacy and social and cultural interaction were highlighted. Participants have the opportunity to interact with other students, not only from the Dominican Republic but also from the United States and other countries in the region, who also attend the meeting.
