Various short films produced by the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister organization in the Dominican Republic, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), were presented oSaturday, September 27 as part of the 8th edition of the Dominican Book Fair in N.Y.


The screening was at the Taller de Artesanía Normandía Maldonado in the Gregorio Luperón High School, located in the heart of Manhattan. Under the name “Three stories one country: Culture, crafts and environmental awareness in the Dominican Republic”, the public had the opportunity to enjoy the short films: El Larimar: de la mina a la joyería; Salga el mal y entre el bien: Liborio Mateo, la historia, and Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience.  This last film received the distinction of finalist in the 2014 edition of ECOFILM Festival.


Alexandra Tabar, Multimedia Manager of GFDD and Multimedia Assistant, Ángel Castellanos, were in charge of the Q&A session that took placeafter the presentation of the films. They answered questions from the audience, who were very interested in learning more about the issues presented in the documentaries, as well as the environmental awareness programs of GFDD and FUNGLODE.


The Book Fair is an important annual event celebrated in NY, organized by the Cultural Commission of Dominican Republic in the U.S., which is part of the Ministry of Culture of Dominican Republic.


GFDD is a nonprofit, non-partisan organization dedicated to the advancement of global collaboration and exchange relevant to Dominican professionals, general audiences and institutions in the homeland and abroad.
