At the time of the discovery of the Americas, pirate ships plundered the Caribbean seas. By 1586 Santo Domingo suffered the most devastating pirate attack of the new world, and with it began the imaginary legend that has lasted for over ten centuries.

Legend has it that Acarix, a Taíno indian, and Alfonso de Alzo, a Spanish soldier, joined forces to protect the treasures of the Hispaniola, thereby giving birth to the clandestine alliance that we know today as Los Custodios de la Lis (The Guardians of the Lis).

Below the shipyards built as arsenals for ships that unloaded at the port of Santo Domingo, are the first waterworks of the colonial times, but only one of them provided access to these sewers, in only one of them the brave guardians could hide, in only one of them is the tunnel that let them evade the bandits and kept the treasure hidden by The Guardians of the Lis for more than four centuries.

Then, in 1972, a visionary lover of the colonial city of Santo Domingo restored and opened, in the same arsenal that was home to The Guardians of the Lis, the Atarazana Restaurant, which is being offered to you and shows you the treasure.

The legend is alive! You can touch it, feel it and taste it.

Today, exquisitely decorated in the sixteenth century style, is the place where you can live an unforgettable colonial experience and enjoy a superb international fusion menu and a unique atmosphere in the colonial city. The exclusive view of the Alcazar de Colón takes us back to the time when the restaurant was the armory; with 500 years of history, today we carry on that tradition as we continue to be an arsenal, but of the best culinary proposals and of the best moments.

The magic and romance have made it into one of the favorite places for celebrating special events such as weddings and birthdays, where moments become part of the history, and magic surrounds the main characters.

The Atarazana Restaurant is known for providing its customers an excellent and quality service and for its commitment to providing a fantastic experience in a classy place that pays special attention to details, based on the architecture of the sixteenth century.

The Hall of Arms is decorated with period furniture, a mural of arms dating back to the sixteenth century, and the best views of the Alcazar de Colón, an indoor area with air conditioning and a panoramic roof, a space for dreaming under the moon and the stars, and open colonial verandas that complement the majestic sceneries. The Atarazana Restaurant is considered the most magical of Santo Domingo in the colonial area.
