Culture Announces the Long Night of the Museums at Christmas

The traditional Long Night of the Museums will take place on Saturday, December 13th, with a wide range of artistic and cultural activities aimed at the people, but especially where Christmas traditions of the Dominican Republic will be reflected in an atmosphere full of joy and entertainment.

Starting at nine in the morning and until midnight, several museums of the Colonial City, the Centro León in Santiago de los Caballeros, and the Casa Gregorio Luperón Museum in Puerto Plata, will offer their historical, archaeological and cultural proposals. Admission to the public will be free of charge.

Children, young people and adults will have access to activities taking place in the museums of Las Casas Reales, Alcázar de Colón, Trampolín, Casa del Tostado, Museo de las Telecomunicaciones, Casa de Teatro, the Spanish Cultural Center, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Fortress of Santo Domingo.

The local cuisine will also be present at the Long Night of the Museums, dedicated to the Dominican Christmas celebration. There will be tastings of ginger, roasted pork (Puerco en puya), cakes wrapped in banana leaves (pasteles en hoja), arepas, biscuits, cassava and other culinary dishes.

In addition, there will be Christmas trees with colored lights and other decorations, as well as music of the season.

In the morning children will be able to participate in a crafts workshop to learn how to make Christmas cards. And in the evening Fortaleza Ozama will be filled with splendor with the performance of “The Nutcracker” by students of the National School of Dance, under the direction of Marianella Sallent.

For the grand finale of the Long Night of the Museums 2014, the Ministry of Culture, the organizer of the event, has prepared a great concert entitled “El valor de la Navidad dominicana”, where our Christmas music from all time periods will be played at Plaza España, from 10:00 pm to midnight.

The Ministry of Culture invites the general public to partake of this important proposal, which seeks to promote interest in the museums of our country.
