Ylonka Nacidit-Perdomo will release her book Dentro del Bosque at the 17th International Book Fair of Puerto Rico (FIL-PR) 2014. Writer, poet and visual artist Dalia Nieves Albert, Executive Vice President of the FIL-PR, will be in charge of making the presentation. The event will take place on November 7th, at 4:00 p.m., at Café de los Poetas, in the La Paz Pavilion of the Luis Muñoz Rivera Park in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

In 2012, the Board of Director of the FIL-PR awarded Nacidit-Perdomo with the Gran Premio Internacional Feria del Libro de Puerto Rico, which recognizes renowned writers, poets and academics for their everlasting legacy in literature, thinking and the Humanities.

On the work of Nacidit-Perdomo, the award-winning writer, essayist and poet Tony Raful, National Literature Award 2014, considers the author as “One of the most important writers of her generation, methodical and competent, [who] has the poetic tone of a special being, sharp and insightful”. In regard to Dentro del Bosque, in his opinion: “It is about twenty short texts, which in turn correspond to selected contents from the column that the author has published in a recognized digital network. I read it as someone enjoying the delicacy of writing pleasures, the aesthetic enjoyment and the primary reverie of dreams and life. Ylonka stands at the window of the source, eagerly peering out and claiming tenderness, she becomes a partner of the fire and of the wind of light that fringe the forests, speaks boldly under the sound of violin and the hustle and bustle of wonder and the universal dance of dreams. Everything happens in the forest and, isn’t the forest herself? Isn’t the forest the altar of miracles and the infinite plenitude of the privilege of living? How does the poet attain such introspection where non-created wonders incite the bark of the imagination?”.

Raful added that “Ylonka Nacidit-Perdomo is a poet whose exquisite rigor in the structure of versification reveals a renowned writer with a beautiful arrangement of metaphors, with a formal precision of language that mutates in expressive language findings, thereby enriching the poetry she writes. Quiet, almost silent, this woman reaches her greatest destination by using winged words.”

Writer and literary critic Jeannette Miller, National Literature Award 2011, wrote that: “Dentro del bosque is a very important book in Ylonka Nacidit’s career and a point of reference for Dominican literature written by women. In these texts the author is perceived as an educated and anguished writer who uses a language full of images that often leads us to the depths of her being. Hence, this book gets into the twists and turns of existential philosophy, uses its own resources of neo concepts, to arrive at the light of faith, a faith that leads her to outbursts of mysticism.”

Catharina Vanderplaats Vallejo, from Concordia University in Montreal, has said about this work that Ylonka “[…] even though she does not refer to the work of Thomas Kempis in an explicit manner, she has confessed to me her debt toward him: as in his case, one of the leading philosophers of Catholicism, it is also evident in Ylonka’s emphasis on the inner life, in ther meditations, and in her distrust in the modern concept that reason will solve all our problems -this book is not “reason-able”… Where this book deviates from Kempis’s ideas, to me is very clear, is in the struggle in which it engages with “the” God. Where Kempis preached that to reach a deeper understanding a total and absolute submission to the will of God was necessary, Ylonka challenges him, objects to him and resists him- more like the romantic legends than like the medieval theology…”.

Nacidit-Perdomo’s literary references include: Contacto de una mirada (poems, 1989), published with a foreword-essay by writer and politician Tony Raful, which gives rise to a contemporary generational debate in the Dominican Republic; Alfonsina Storni: a través de sus imágenes y metáforas (essay, 1992) Arrebatos (poems, 1993), Luna Barroca (poems, 1996), Papeles de la noche (poems, 1998), Altagracia Saviñón o la discontinuidad del instante (essay, 1998), Sobreaviso, escritura de mujeres (essay, 1998), Octubre (poems, 1998), Triángulo en trébol (poems, 1999), La Circularidad Enigmática de la Mirada / The Enigmatic Circularity of The Glance (bilingual edition, translated by Linda M.
