The deadline for taking part in the first edition of the Exprésate (Express Yourself) Popular Photography Competition has been extended until December 1st, 2014, to provide an opportunity for more people to participate. This information has been provided by the office of the Dominican Commissioner of Culture in the United States.


The Exprésate Popular Photography Competition is being organized by the Dominican Commissioner of Culture in the United States, a unit of the Ministry of Culture of the Dominican Republic, and it is directed to the Dominican community residing in the United States and Puerto Rico. There will be three awards in electronic equipment.


The Dominican Commissioner of Culture in the United States, Mr. Carlos Sánchez, informed that the theme of the first edition of the competition is “My Dominican Culture”, which entails submitting to competition photographic images that reflect the cultural values and the everyday life of Dominicans living abroad.


Entries will be accepted until 6:00 pm on December 1st, 2014. No entries will be accepted after that date and time, without exception. The winners will be announced on January 16, 2015.


Exprésate Popular Photography Competition


Rules of the competition:
Dominicans (or of Dominican descent), of any age, who have been residing abroad (in the United States and Puerto Rico) for three or more years, are eligible to participate. (Minors must submit a signed consent form from their parents or guardians).


PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS are not eligible to participate. Employees of the Office of the Dominican Commissioner of Culture and the executives of the International Association of Photography and Art (AINFA for its acronym in Spanish) and their immediate family members, are also excluded from participating.


The theme is: “My Dominican Culture”. Participants are free to submit the pictures that they consider reflect the theme of the competition.


REQUIREMENTS:
Each participant may submit a maximum of three (3) photos in JPG format. Photos must be original and unpublished, either in black and white or in color.
Photos that have participated in another photography competition, or that have been published on the Internet (on social networks, blogs, websites, etc.) will not be accepted.
No photo montages will be allowed.
No more than one award may be won by the same person.


HOW TO SUBMIT ENTRIES:
Entries must be submitted through the www.codocul.com website. Search Concurso (Competition), click on “Exprésate”, and fill out the entry form. Applications must be electronically signed by the applicant or representative and must be accompanied by the photo(s). Once all terms and conditions are accepted, each participant will receive a notification via email.


This competition will be officially open from the date of publication of these rules, and entries will be received until 6:00 pm on December 1st, 2014. No entries will be accepted after that date and time, without exception. The winners will be announced on January 16, 2015.


AWARDS:
1st Place: A Digital SLR Camera
2nd Place: A Laptop Computer
3rd Place: An Electronic Tablet
4th Audience Award: A plaque and certificate of recognition. (This award will be presented to the entry that receives the highest number of votes (likes) through our website/Facebook page: www.facebook.com/comisionado.cultura).


The first three places, the audience awards and the honorable mentions will receive a copy of the photography book “Exprésate, Mi Cultura Dominicana” (Express Yourself, My Dominican Culture) and a certificate of participation.


THE JURY:
The office of the Dominican Commissioner of Culture will select the jury. It will be made of renowned specialists in the field of photography and/or art.


COPYRIGHT, PRIVACY AND FUTURE USE OF THE PHOTOS:
The photographer will retain the intellectual property of the photo(s) submitted to the competition.
The Dominican Commissioner of Culture in the United States reserves all the rights to use, reproduce, exhibit and/or disseminate the winning photos, giving credit to their author.


The participation of the contestants automatically implies their total acceptance of these rules. The Organizer (the Dominican Commissioner of Culture) shall not be in any way liable in case of malfunction of the network preventing the proper development of the competition, and will not be responsible for any transmission problems or for the loss of e-mails, not attributable to itself.
