Dominican film La Montaña successfully screened at the Providence Latin American Film Festival (PLAFF), event that took place on October 2 to 5, 2014 in Providence, Rhode Island. The film projection had the collaboration of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD).

The production captured the attention of the public, who remained responsive during the film that beautifully documents the adventure of the first Dominican expedition to reach the summit of Mount Everest in Nepal. At the end of the documentary film Director, Tabaré Blanchard, participated in a question and answer session, in which he had the opportunity to respond to interesting inquiries about the filming.

Several Dominicans that attended the event mentioned how prideful they felt to witness a production of exceptional quality, which shows the values ??that encourage people to reach their goals. This motivation was captured by the story of three Dominicans who managed to climb the Everest and the symbolism it represents for Dominicans who leave their country, in search of a better future for their children. PLAFF Director, Antonio Aguilar, praised the film and thanked GFDD for the support always given to the Festival, collaborating with the presentation of Dominican productions.

La Montaña presents the contrast between the highest mountain in the world and the low lands of the Caribbean, as the three climbers surpass the difficult path to reach the top. At the same time, three Dominican children, sons of fishermen, start their own challenge in climbing the highest mountain of their island. Two parallel stories that remind us that from the sea to the sky, everyone has a dream and their own mountain to climb.

PLAFF is an inclusive Pan-American film festival operating since 1992. Over the years, PLAFF has screened more than 650 feature films, shorts, documentaries and animations, and aims to bring the creative work of up-and-coming filmmakers to the New England area. It has been recognized nationally and internationally for its rich history and the quality of its films and programs.
