Psychotherapist and educator Martha Beato has received an invitation to participate in the “8th Dominican Book Fair in New York,” to be held from September 26th to the 28th at the Gregorio Luperón school in Manhattan.

Beato will release her book “Querida Martha (Dear Martha)”, which has already been successfully presented in Santo Domingo. In it she compiles 150 of the letters that readers of the Listín Diario newspaper in the Dominican Republic and of the El Universo newspaper in Ecuador wrote to her for more than a decade.

The invitation was issued ??by the Ministry of Culture of the Dominican Republic, through the Dominican Commissioner of Culture in the United States, led by Carlos Sánchez.

This fair is the most important cultural event that Dominicans abroad carry out and, as every year, it will feature the book as the star. It will be open to artistic and cultural activities of the quisqueyanos (Dominicans) residing in the island or abroad. This year the event is dedicated to poet and essayist Rei Berroa who lives in Virginia.

The event celebrates the national contribution to literature, while at the same time it offers the Spanish-speaking communities in the United States the opportunity to come into contact with the ample, varied and rich Dominican literature.

Martha Beato, who is also an educator and a certified coach, will have a booth at the fair and will be part of a series of activities that are on the agenda.

The fair will honor Dominican writers living in the metropolitan area of Washington, D.C., and it will pay tribute to the Puerto Rican diaspora in New York.

In her book “Querida Martha” Beato offers guidance for people to find the answers they seek but inside themselves, “because you have to take the reins of your own life and nobody can create a change in someone if they do not want it.”

Thus, the book becomes a guide for people who are unable or are afraid to visit a psychologist. The various situations portrayed in the book are familiar to us, and it offers recommendations that can serve not only those who initially wrote the letters, but also those who are in a similar situation, by helping them find realistic solutions and to pursue their well-being.
