The International EDANCO 2014 Dance Celebration Returns from the 16th to the 28th of September

The participating countries are: the Dominican Republic, Spain, France, Colombia, Switzerland, Norway, Israel, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Martinique, Canada, United States, Italy and Germany.

The X International Contemporary Dance Festival (EDANCO) 2014 will take place September 16th to the 28th at the Palace of Fine Arts and at the Narciso González Cultural Center. Various dance companies from around the world, including from the Dominican Republic, will participate.

The opening ceremony, will take place in the Hall of the Mirrors of the Palace of Fine Arts. It will be presided over by the Deputy Minister of Culture, Claudio Cohen; the Consul General of the Israeli Embassay, Adi Farjon; and, the Director of EDANCO, Edmundo Poy.

Marianela Boán, Director of Contemporary Dance at the Ministry of Culture; Carlos Veitía, Director of the Ballet Concert; and Senia Rodríguez, Director of the Popular Dancing Theater, will also attend.
The inaugural gala will take place on Tuesday, September 16th, at 8:30 p.m. in the Máximo Avilés Blonda Hall of the Palace of Fine Arts. Israel and its Nadine Animato Theater Dance Company will participate in the event. Admission is free of charge.

On the same day, at 5 p.m., Spain will participate with its dance company Maduixa Teatre. This presentation will take place in the Monina Solá auditorium of the Narciso González Cultural Center. Admission is also free of charge.

In his statement during the opening ceremony, Poy said that the Canadian Piqué Academy would be the international representative of the EDANCO Youth Dance segment, for the third time. This activity will take place on September 24th in two sessions, one at 5:30 p.m. and another at 8:30 p.m., in the Palace of Fine Arts.

“We are all EDANCO, all of the Embassies are the festival, and we hope that EDANCO and the Dominican public will be acquainted with what is happening in the country,” said Poy.

In addition, Adi Farjon also commented during the event: “It is a great honor for our Embassy to have been invited to participate by bringing our contemporary dance group from Israel. And, in this event, one of the best, the Nadine Animato Theater Dance Company, will be performing.”

The cost of admission to the presentations is set at 100 pesos per person. Performances will start at 8:30 p.m., Monday to Saturday. On Sunday, September 21st, there will be two sessions. The first one will take place at 11:30 a.m., and the second at 8:30 p.m. On Sunday, September 28th, the festival is scheduled to close with the Dominican night. There will be two presentations, one at 5:30 p.m. and the other at 8:30 p.m.

On Thursday, the 18th, Colombia and its Kalus Danza Company are scheduled to perform at the Palace of Fine Arts at 8:30 p.m. On Friday, the 19th, the United States will make its debut with its Bridge Dance Project NY Company, also at 8:30 p.m. On this same day, the Swizz T-42 Company will also perform.

The Norwegian day is scheduled for Saturday, the 20th, with a performance from the “Kari Hoaas” Company at 8:30 p.m. This company will also perform on Sunday, the 21st, at 11:30 a.m.

On Sunday, the 21st, the Dominican night will take place with performances by the Contemporary Ballet Company of Young Dancers from Santiago, the National Dominican Ballet, the Hispanic Dance Company, the National Dance School, the Dominican Concert Ballet, and the Popular Dancing Theater.

Monday, the 22nd, belongs to Puerto Rico and its Ballet Concert, whose performance will take place at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, the 23rd, is the day that Martinique and its “Christiane Emmanuel” Company will perform. Italy, and its Paolo Londi Company, is scheduled to participate that same day. Other performances will also take place on the same day.
