The Ministry of Culture and Mario Martínez Fernández, in coordination with the Museum of Modern Art (MAM), will open the exhibition “Ramón Oviedo El Triunfo del Espíritu” (Ramón Oviedo The Triumph of the Spirit) on the first floor of the MAM, next Tuesday, July 22nd, at 7 pm.
… the private collection of the Martínez Fernández family, currently holds more than 400 works of art. The collection is capable of integrating a fairly representative anthology of the modern and contemporary art of the Dominican Republic.
This exhibition is part of the institutional initiative developed by the Museum of Modern Art focusing on the importance of studying the presence and contributions of the cultural patronage in the Dominican Republic.
“Ramón Oviedo El Triunfo del Espíritu” is an extract from the private collection of Mario Martínez Fernández. He says that he unpretentiously made the decision to put together his collection since the mid 80’s, along with his wife Socorro Veloz de Martínez.
Amable López Meléndez, art critic, head curator at the MAM, and curator of the exhibition, explains that as a result of this careful and exemplary protective work of the most authentic values ??and cultural expressions of our country, the private collection of the Martínez Fernández family, currently holds more than 400 works of art. The collection is capable of integrating a fairly representative anthology of the modern and contemporary art of the Dominican Republic.
He said that the “Oviedo Collection/Mario Martínez” consists of a set of works, roughly characterized by its synthesis and diversity, not only in reference to the works, but also in relation to the languages ??and styles that it transforms. “This collection includes exceptional findings, made in different creative stages, and in which Oviedo taps into a formidable poly-synthesis of the aesthetic, playful, and thoughtful, as well as a number of works characterized by the intricate patterns of lines, spectrums, phantasmagoria, and fictions”.
María del Carmen Ossaye currently serves as the Editorial Director and Coordinator of the events taking place in the framework of the exhibition, where the books “El Triunfo del Espíritu” (The Triumph of the Spirit) and “El Esplendor del Mural” (The Mural’s Splendor), will be released. Both books are about the life of Maestro Ramón Oviedo, winner of the 2013 Visual Arts National Award, presented this week by the Ministry of Culture
The exhibition will remain open until the end of August. It will run from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, at the Museum of Modern Art of the Dominican Republic, located on Ave. Pedro Henríquez Ureña, Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte in Santo Domingo
