This activity is a training exercise in which young Dominican musicians from various musical educational backgrounds (including both private and public) will receive international musical training. They will perform in several chamber music concerts, one of which will be with youth from the Center for Teenagers in Conflict with the Law (CAIPACIL) in Najayo.


With the support of the Office of the Vice President and the Progressing with Solidarity (Prosoli) program, the Symphony Foundation and YOA (the Orchestra of the Americas) will implement the 2014 Orchestral Residency. During this 17-day long activity, international musical training will be given to local music teachers and young Dominican musicians will receive intensive musical training. In addition, several concerts and in a workshop regarding the importance of investing in music education will take place as part of this event.  


This activity will take place from June 29th to July 15th. A total of 45 young Dominican musicians will participate alongside 74 young musicians from the rest of the Americas who will receive intensive orchestral training from the YOA professors.


The Orchestral Residence 2014 is an inclusive and engaging workshop in which young Dominican musicians from various music education backgrounds (both public or private) will receive lessons in body language and leadership, and will perform in chamber music concerts in Najayo (with the youth from the Center for Teenagers in Conflict with the Law CAIPACIL), and in another concert in Boca Chica.


Participants will also engage in social work relating to music in some surrounding communities.


The 2014 Orchestral Residence has the support of the Ministry of Culture, which will grant full scholarships to all participants.


As part of the closing activities of this multicultural event, three big symphonic concerts will take place, two of which will be open to public. The first concert will take place on Friday, June 11th in the Centro León de Santiago de los Caballeros and the other will take place on Sunday, July 13th in the Plaza Juan Barón in Santo Domingo. The third concert will be performed Monday, July 14th in the Eduardo Brito National Theather.


This year, the YOA will include in its yearly tour schedule, six talented young Dominican musicians. The Caribbean Tour takes place in the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Jamaica.
