Tourism Cluster of Puerto Plata Calls for the Continuation of the Puntilla del Malecón Project in Order to Preserve its Cultural Heritage

Representatives of the Board of Directors of the Tourism Cluster of the Puerto Plata Destination informed in regard to the institutional position on the Puntilla Park construction project, which includes an amphitheater. The meeting took place on Wednesday.

The announcement took place during a meeting in the office of the Governor of Puerto Plata, in order to present the details of the initiative, which is being implemented per instructions of the Ministry of Tourism.

The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministries of Culture and Tourism and from the National Directorate for Monument Heritage. Santiago Duval, the Archaeologist who led the excavations at Puntilla del Malecón, presented the objects he found during the excavation that was carried out in the aforementioned area.

As for the Tourism Cluster, Mr. Román Medina, in his capacity as Secretary of the organization and on behalf of the American Chamber of Commerce, served as spokesman to present the terms of a letter that was sent to the Ministry of Culture and other relevant public institutions.

The document emphasizes the concern of the Cluster in light of the suspension of the remodeling of Puntilla del Malecón of Puerto Plata, while expressing the support of the management agency to the project, under the condition that the Ministry of Culture and the relevant public institutions exercise strict monitoring and supervision during the construction. This should take place as a joint effort with the construction company so that the cultural heritage represented by historic buildings and the citadel nestled at Puntilla are not affected.

Máximo Iglesias, President; Roberto Casoni, Vice President; Mitchell Musa, Treasurer; Román Medina, Secretary; and, Directors José Natalio Redondo, Mayreni Bournigal, and Manuel Finke, attended the meeting representing the Tourism Cluster.
