The Government to Increase Budget for Local Governments by 1,300 Million

The Dominican government has promised to increase the budgets for regional governments to the tune of 1,300 million pesos over the coming year, according to Fausto Ruiz president of the Dominican Federation of Municipal Governments (FEDOMU). He made this announcement after a meeting with President of the Republic Leonel Fernández, held in the National Palace.

Ruiz said the President talked about the challenges facing the country in the coming year and the government’s limited power to increase by 10% the municipal budgets.

“Of the few sectors we are going to increase in absolute terms of resource management in the 2008 budget, the local governments of this country are among them. This means we are going to receive, in absolute terms, some 1,300 million pesos more than we received in 2007,” according to a communiqué from the President’s Office of Press, Information and Publicity.
