The “El Metro” publication was originally written by GFDD Research Fellow, Carl Allen, and edited by the Foundation’s Executive Director, Natasha Despotovic in 2012. A graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School PhD Program in Public Policy and Urban Planning, Dr. Allen’s research is a comprehensive study and evaluation of the potential impact of the transportation system on poverty alleviation, congestion, pollution, urban growth, and social and economic advancement. The subject of sustainable transportation and green development has been at the core of the mission of GFDD and its sister organization in the Dominican Republic, FUNGLODE. On an ongoing basis, the Foundations organize international forums, festivals, workshops, training programs and lectures, which have helped promote a generation of scholarship aimed at influencing public policy on economic and social development — both at the national and international level. It is hoped that GFDD’s new audio book series will continue to grow, highlighting a wider selection of the Foundation’s interests including; education, environment, health, urban development and history, among other current topics.
