The Ministry of Culture, the General Directorate of the Book Fair and the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) will open the following solo exhibitions: “Le Panthéon de Mercader”, by artist José Mercader, and “Looop”, by Elvis Díaz, on Friday, April 25th, at 7:00 pm. And, on Sunday, April 27th, at 7:00 pm, the collective exhibition “Panamanian Art: Yesterday and Today”, in the framework of the FILRD 2014.
“Le Panthéon de Mercader” includes some hundred works in various formats. The opening event will take place in the basement of the Museum of Modern Art at 7:00 pm.


Likewise, the exhibition “Looop”, based on video art, video installation and video performance of the multidisciplinary artist Elvis Díaz, will open in the Projects Room. Elvis Díaz has participated in over forty group and individual exhibitions, and in art competitions, including the XXII, XXIII, XXIV and XXVI editions of the MAM’s National Biennial of Visual Arts.


On Sunday, April 27th, the collective exhibition “Panamanian Art: Yesterday and Today” will be opened. This exhibition of modern and contemporary art from the Country Guest of Honor of the XVII International Book Fair Santo Domingo 2014 has been dedicated to writer Domingo Moreno Jimenes, creator of the Postumismo movement in the Dominican Republic.


“Panamanian Art: Yesterday and Today” comprises a series of works, including paintings, prints and drawings from the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and by artists: Guillermo Trujillo, Rodney Selenka, Teresa Icaza, Roosvelt Díaz, Raúl Vásquez Saez, Alicia Viteri, Julio Zachrisson, Luis Aguilar Ponce, Antonio Alvarado, Coquí Calderón, Manuel Chong Neto, Juan Dal Vera, Eduardo Pérez, Alfredo Sinclair and Tabo Toral, and Ana Elena Garuz. In addition, this exhibition features contemporary artists: Elpidio Mendoza, Ahamed Hassan, Kansuet, Michael Leonardo, Darién Montañez and Pilar Moreno.


The exhibition “After all, tomorrow is another day”, by artist Jorge Pineda, remains open on the second floor of the MAM, where sculptures, drawings and installations that have been submitted in biennials, museums and galleries during the past 15 years, in different cities around the world, can be seen.


Meanwhile, in the third level of the MAM, the “permanent exhibition of the Museum of Modern Art” is on display. This exhibition includes some of the most emblematic works from the MAM collection, which comprises from the predecessors of Dominican art, the contribution of the first teachers, the influence of the historical avant-gardes and the subsequent development of the national art, showing the events and trends in art today.


The exhibitions will be open to the public from April 24th to May 5th, with extended visiting hours from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm, during the International Book Fair at the Museum of Modern Art of the Dominican Republic, located in the Av. Pedro Henríquez Ureña, Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte.
