The exhibition “Raíces Aura de Carnaval” (Aura Roots of the Carnival), by artist Ana María Henríquez, opened last Thursday at the Museum of the Dominican Family. This activity is being sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD).


Professor Nino Feliz, new Vice Chancellor of Academic Extension of the State University and Clinton López, President of the Dominican Association of Fine Artists, spoke at the ceremony and praised the work of the young professional who presents her second solo exhibition.


The exhibition features 18 works in various acrylic and mixed formats and techniques. It will be open to the public until April 11th, 2014.
Referring to the artistic work of Ana María Henríquez, Gilda Matos said that the artist takes her roots to the carnival and mixes its spirit with images, colors, and movements of the Dominican cultural imaginary.


She also said that the artist dresses in identity, takes the mask, the drums and goes to the carnival.


For his part, Clinton López congratulated the artist who has worked with great interest the issue of cultural identity of the Dominican people, and wished her success in her work in future years.


Meanwhile, Ana María Henríquez acknowledged the support received from the UASD and the Ministry of Culture to make her dream come true to present her exhibition to the Dominican public.
During the evening, the audience enjoyed a performance by young members of the Guloyas of San Pedro de Macorís, World Cultural Heritage, and the upcoming presentation of the drums of Dennys Ángeles, among other dance companies, was announced.
