The Ministry of Culture (MINC) announced the winners of the III Exhibition of the Children Carnival, which was held last Saturday, March 1st, on Ave. George Washington (at the Santo Domingo Boardwalk).


“Invasión Biomega” (Biomega Invasion), the troupe that won the grand prize, will receive a cash prize of RD$75,000. In the Alibabá category, the first prize went to “Alegría y tradición inspirada en Venecia y algo más” (Joy and tradition inspired by Venice and more); the second prize went to “Alibabá de los Alcarrizos” (Alibabá of Los Alcarrizos); and the third prize went to “La Gran Comparsa de Alibabá Tradicional de Villa María” (The Great Troupe of Traditional Alibabá of Villa María).


In the Traditional category, the first prize went to “Los Herederos de los Tiznaos” (The Heirs of the Tiznaos); the second prize went to “Tradición Dominicana” (Dominican Tradition); and the third place was awarded to “Tradiciones de mi país” (Traditions of my country).


In the Fantasy category, the winning artistic works were: first prize, “Las Gayunberitas” (The Gayunberitas); second prize, “Magia de un jardín” (Magic of a garden); and, the third prize, “El mundo de las mariposas” (The world of butterflies).


In addition, in the Diablo (Devil) category, the first prize went to “Arácnidos del Brisal” (Arachnids of Brisal); the second place was awrded to “Los cachorros de Villa Francisca” (The puppies of Villa Francisca); and, the third place went to “Los guerreros” (The warriors).


In the Historic category the winners were: first prize “Indígenas del Caribe” (Indigenous people of the Caribbean); second prize went to “Los Bulollitas en la lluvia de colores” (The Bulollitas in the color rain); and the third prize was awarded to “Dinastía de Faraones” (Pharaohs Dynasty). Meanwhile, in the category of Popular Creativity the following were selected: the first prize went to “Muñecas de Trapo” (Rag Dolls); the second prize was awarded to “Somos el futuro salvemos los cafetales” (We are the future, let’s save the coffee plantations), and, the third prize went to “Los herederos de los pintaos”. (The heirs of the pintaos).


And in the Individual category, the first prize went to “El Duende del Bosque” (The Forest Elf); the second prize was awarded to “Sueños de Colores” (Color Dreams); and the third prize went to “Homenaje a los Grandes Robalagallinas de Nuestro País” (Homage to the Great Robalagallinas of Our Country).


The exhibition was attended by the Minister of Culture, José Antonio Rodríguez; Juan Tomás García (Tommy), Deputy Minister of Popular Creativity and Creation; Ramón Lachapelle, Director of Management and Carnival; Milagros Hernández, Coordinator of Operations of the Carnival; and Samanta Olivero, Director of the National System of Escuelas Libres, among other officers of the Ministry of Culture.


The jury in charge of selecting the winning troupes consisted of Rosa Milagros Pérez, actress and children’s entertainer; Jackson Delgado, actor, dancer, and choreographer; José Ricardo Ventura, actor and journalist; and Tío Víctor “Científico Loco” (Mad Scientist).


Tens of troupes led by adults and many of them watched over by their parents, were presented to the jury that selected the winning groups of this exhibition.


This activity was organized by the National Directorate for Carnival of the Ministry of Culture, and 107 troupes from all over the country participated in it.


The joy, color, and creativity were evident in each of the groups gathered at George Washington Avenue. The carnival activity began with the singing of the national anthem, by the Las Cruces de Moca Escuela Libre Band, followed by the parade of the King and Queen of the Children Carnival, Félix Peguero (Cambumbito) and Gladis Yudelka Olea Guilamo (Payasita Tiri).


Police officers, units of the Civil Defense and the Red Cross worked to ensure public order and security during the activity.
