Santo Domingo, February 27, 2014

The song, written by composer and singer Roldán Mármol, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, seeks to celebrate the excitement, warmth, and the freedom of a time when dreams and fantasy parade through the main streets of each province.

“This song has a deep meaning for me, as it seeks to connect our national carnival to the value of our national symbols”, Roldán says.

The National Carnival Parade will take place on Sunday, March 2nd, on Av. George Washington in the National District. It will begin at 10:00 am, from the Malecón Mall to the Macho Obelisk. Among those invited to the event are the President of the Republic, Mr. Danilo Medina Sánchez; the Vice President of the Republic, Mrs. Margarita Cedeño de Fernández, and Ministers and the Ambassadors of Spain and Israel.

This year the event will be dedicated to the eastern provinces: Monte Plata, San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana, Higüey, Hato Mayor, and El Seibo. It will have a total of 180 troupes from the 31 provinces and the National District.

“Mi Patria en Carnaval” (My Country on Carnival) was released along with a music video that is available on the website of the Ministry of Culture (www.cultura.gob.do) and on the YouTube page of the Ministry.

Dary Darys, July Monte, and Magic Mejía were responsible for the musical arrangement of the song. They combined multiple native rhythms as guloya, gagá, atabales, alí babá, and salve, and other Latin and Caribbean rhythms, until they became a song thanks to the accompaniment of the “Sergio Vargas Orchestra” and the musicians of “Roldán y Banda”.

Other invited guest artists are: Edgar Molina (guloya percussion and Brazilian batucada) and Alberto Fernández-Beto (Alí Babá drummer), and in the backup singers of the Sin Fronteras group, and the Salve de Mata los Indios group, Villa Mella. The mix was prepared by Polo Parra Studios, and the production was the responsibility of Fundación Cultural Cofradía, and Tereke Productions.
