Tourism Cluster and FOMIN open exhibition “Trajes y Caretas Carnaval de Puerto Plata” at Casa de Cultura

With a selection of images, costumes, and masks, the Tourism Cluster of Puerto Plata, the FOMIN-IDB project “Tourism Management based on Cultural Resources,” and Casa de Cultura of this city, opened the exhibition “Trajes y Caretas Carnaval de Puerto Plata 2014” (Puerto Plata Carnival Costumes and Masks) last night.

The colorful show takes place for the second year in a row at the Jaime Colson Hall of Casa de Cultura, as part of the initiatives developed by the Cluster and FOMIN for the POP Carnival tourism product, which seeks to foster this cultural event as a marketable proposal of national and international promotion.

The exhibition consists of graphical and physical representations of masks and costumes belonging to more than fifty taimáscaros tribes and individual characters of the province, to pay tribute to one of the most representative folklore festivities of Puerto Plata.

Prominent personalities of the tourism, cultural, and social sectors, as well as the general public of Puerto Plata, were present at the opening ceremony.

Máximo Iglesias, President of the Tourism Cluster, addressed the audience to reaffirm the commitment of the institution to ensure a first-rate complementary offer for all visitors to the destination. He also urged the community to support the initiatives that promote the preservation of the cultural and historical resources of the province.

“Trajes y Caretas Carnaval de Puerto Plata” will be open to the public until March 22nd, Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and then from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. On Saturday and Sunday the event will be open from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm.

Casa de Cultura is located at calle Separación No.22, in the Historic Center of the city of San Felipe in Puerto Plata.
