The GFDD and FUNGLODE showcased several publications including The Presence of Africa in the Caribbean, the Antilles and the United States, at a presentation and discussion panel at the 7th Annual Dominican Book Fair at Boricua College’s Manhattan campus.

Two of the 16 authors who contributed to the book, Mateo Morrison and Avelino Stanley, were present at the discussion in the René Rodríguez Soriano Hall on Saturday, September 28.

Messrs Morrison and Stanley discussed the book, a scrupulous analysis of that period of history, which transmits innovative and inspirational ideas from the viewpoint of the additional 14 academics and authors. The national authors include, Celsa Albert Batista, Lipe Collado, Franklin J. Franco, José Guerrero, Rafael Jarvis Luis, Odalis G. Pérez, Geo Ripley, José Luis Sáez and Darío Solano. The international authors are Delia Blanco, Patrick Bellegarde-Smith, Jean Ghasmann Bissainthe, Melina Pappademos and Roger Toumson.

The diaspora book is part of the GFDD and FUNGLODE publication series, RESEARCH AND IDEAS, which includes research papers, articles and speeches that address critical issues of the contemporary world, from national, regional and global perspectives.

As part of this unique series, The Presence of Africa in the Caribbean seeks to elevate discourse on the historical journey of people of African descent throughout the continent and to promote understanding of how this forced journey continues to shape modern society.

Other GFDD/FUNGLODE publications were on sale at the Book Fair, including; the Dominican Encyclopedic Dictionary of the Environment; New Perspectives: Dominican Republic; Empowerment of Women in Democracies of Developing Countries: The Experience of the Dominican Woman and The Metro and it Impacts on Transportation System Integration in Santo Domingo.

On Sunday, September 29, FUNGLODE’s Jorge Araujo oversaw a roundtable discussion on Global Magazine Number 54’s “Pedro Mir and Pedro Henríquez Ureña” with the participation of Frank Báez, Fernando Berroa, Jorge Araujo, Reynaldo Disla, Miguel Cabrera and Moisés Muñiz. “The true death of Pedro Henríquez Ureña” and other short stories were also discussed by this group.

Now in its 7th year, the Dominican Book Fair in New York is an annual event celebrating the literary contributions of Dominican authors, both in the Dominican Republic and the United States. The Book Fair is celebrated with music, theater, cinema, arts and crafts, paintings, dance and other cultural activities.
