Santo Domingo, September 26, 2013

The Dominican National Commission for UNESCO, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, will offer the workshop “Adapting to Climate Change and Educating for Sustainable Development,” which will take place at the National Aquarium and on the beach of the Coopmarena Hotel, Juan Dolio, on September 26 and 27.
This meeting seeks to increase the capacity of teachers and students of the Network of Schools Associated to UNESCO, on the methodological work of the field practices of UNESCO’s Caribbean Sea Project “Observing the sand,” and to facilitate the development of activities that address, in a critical manner, the problems and conflicts present in the beach ecosystems and surrounding areas.
The workshop will allow the twelve schools that make up the RedPEADominicana to be empowered by the relevant techniques in the study of issues related to Climate Change and Sustainable Development, to promote the continuity of the project and provide them with educational tools that will contribute to the development of classroom activities on this subject.

The workshop will bring together teachers and students from schools in Pedernales, Azua, Barahona, La Altagracia, Baní, San Cristobal, San Pedro de Macorís and Santo Domingo.

This event also receives financial support from UNESCO’s Participation Program and the Ministry of Culture, and technical assistance from the National Aquarium, the National Council for Climate Change and the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources.
